Here's what I love:

This painting:

Everything about it calms and centers me -- the beautiful little girls so intent on their task, the quality of the light (approaching dusk contrasted with the glow of the lanterns), the overgrown garden . . . . This painting makes me happy.

  1. That is such a sweet painting. It makes me happy too...thanks for sharing.

  2. Sargent is a masterful painter! I love his work.

  3. Love the the Halloween post below. I've been getting a bit behind lately. Thanks for coming by. Holly at

  4. I can see why you'd get that feeling from it - it's beautiful! Thanks for sharing it.

  5. Sargent is one of my favorite American painters! I've never seen this painting of his before ~ it's so beautiful. It captures a wonderful mood!

  6. Oh, Liz! I ADORE that painting and have for years. I had a huge poster of it from 1983 when it was used as the logo for the Shaw Festival at Niagara-on-the-Lake, which I attended that year and saw Saint Joan.
That poster followed my all through college and here to the farm, and is still here in my home, though disintegrating.
Oh, I love it so, the light, that peach color, that magical dusky quality!
Liz, we are truly kindred spirits!
